Luxury Massage Chair Showroom Test Checklist

A printable checklist for testing a five to fifteen thousand dollar massage chair in person before you commit.

A massage chair at this price deserves a proper in-person session, not a two-minute demo while a salesperson talks. This checklist walks you through what to bring, what to measure, and what to feel for during a full program, so you leave the showroom with notes you can actually compare rather than a vague impression.

Work through it in order and bring the measurements from the Room Fit Planner (reclivault.com/tools/massage-chair-room-fit-planner/) with you. If a chair fails one of the early fit or clearance checks, it does not matter how good the massage feels; it will not work in your home.

  • Bring the height, weight, and any injury notes for every person who will use the chair regularly.
  • Bring your room measurements: floor space, wall gap, ceiling height, and the narrowest doorway or stair turn on the delivery route.
  • Confirm the manufacturer height and weight range in writing and check that every intended user falls inside it, not just at the edge.
  • Wear the kind of clothing you would actually wear at home; thick denim and belts change how rollers feel.
  • Ask for the chair to be fully reclined to its zero gravity position and measure the real depth it needs from the wall.
  • Run the body scan and check whether the rollers land on your shoulders and lower back, not above or below them.
  • Sit through one complete automatic program from start to finish rather than sampling thirty seconds of each.
  • Try the lowest and highest intensity settings on the back rollers and note whether the gentle end is genuinely gentle.
  • Test the roller reach at the neck and at the base of the spine, where an SL or L track earns its price.
  • Check the 4D roller depth adjustment by feel: the third and fourth dimensions should be obvious, not a marketing claim.
  • Turn on the heat and note how long it takes to feel it through the upholstery and where it is actually located.
  • Try the foot and calf rollers with shoes off and note whether they reach your arches and heels comfortably.
  • Listen to the chair with the showroom music off; motor noise at home in a quiet room is louder than you expect.
  • Press on the arm and leg airbags at full intensity and decide whether the compression is pleasant or simply tight.
  • Inspect the stitching, seams, and the underside of the seat for materials quality, not just the visible panels.
  • Ask whether the upholstery is real leather, bonded, or synthetic, and whether replacement covers are available.
  • Try the controls and the app with your own phone if there is one; a confusing interface will cut your daily use.
  • Ask who performs in-home service in your zip code and how parts, labor, and travel are covered year by year.
  • Ask what white glove delivery includes: placement, assembly, removal of packaging, and a working demonstration.
  • Get the delivered price in writing, including delivery, setup, tax, and any extended service plan.
  • Ask about the return window, the restocking fee, and who pays return shipping on a chair that weighs this much.
  • Sit in the chair after the program ends and note how you feel ten minutes later, not just during the massage.
  • Photograph the model label, the control panel, and the spec sheet so you can compare chairs at home.
  • Score the session out of ten before you leave the showroom and write down the single biggest doubt you have.
